The catalyst will consume and recreate itself within its process and purpose as the catalyst. The catalyst as the modern artist. The catalyst creates his myth and destroys it in the process. It is a fantastic product of the artist being both victim and perpetrator. Joewl gives the ultimate sacrifice for his art: himself. But in return he is reborn.
There is a mercurial element to Joewl’s music that makes it alluring, violent and mystical. One is not sure if they should feel abhorrence for his music, or celebrate it for a wild act of Dionysian defiance. We can see the Apollonian spirit burned and offered to the rag dolls to rape and defile. But once they are finished with the Apollonian, the Dionysian is next.
And that is the strange thing with this album: the conflict is an internal process; not a conflict with the Apollonian and Dionysian. There is not a struggle between light and dark. There is not a struggle with the individual and the masses. And there is not a struggle between primitivity and modernity. There is not even a struggle: it is a catalysis.
A reaction with all these elements. A process of reducing and absorbing these elements. Joewl does not struggle with these factors: he is the catalyst. Joewl as catalyst reduces the duality of our existence to a pure phenomena. And this reduction is nothing more than a perpetual catalyst of our world. There will be no end to this process; the phenomena is eternal.
Joewl Levis’ ‘CZ → C + Z’, is the masterpiece that can never realise completion. It is a living piece of work that is eternal. As we listen we will process our existence and recreate it over and over again. It is primitive in its modernity. It is dark in its brightness. He is the individual who rules the masses.
